Located in Northern California on the border of Nevada, the Marine Corps Mountain Warfare Training Center is adjacent to Coleville and about 21 miles southeast of Bridgeport. It occupies 46,000 acres of the Toiyabe National Forest—the largest forest in the United States outside of Alaska. Annual temperatures range from more than 90º F in the summer to -20º F in the winter, with snow from October to April.

The area is filled with abundant opportunities for outdoor recreation such as fishing, horseback riding, hunting, off-roading, camping, hiking and backpacking. Positioned between Mammoth Mountains 90 minutes to the south, and Lake Tahoe 60 minutes north, Bridgeport is a short commute to some of the best skiing in the West.

There is a variety of hot springs within a short drive of Coleville, as well as gambling just over the border in Nevada. Other points of interest in the area include Mono Lake, Bodie Ghost Town, and Yosemite National Park—one of America’s most renowned parks and home of the Giant Sequoias. Coleville is also home to a large winter population of Canadian Geese.
