To Our Military Families,
This notice pertains to the status of implementing provisions contained within the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) for the Fiscal Year 2020.
As you may know, Congress passed legislation as part of the 2020 NDAA that included a Tenant Bill of Rights (TBOR). The TBOR contains a variety of rights designed to ensure that military service members and their families have access to safe, quality, and well-maintained homes and communities on DoD installations. These rights are available to all active duty residents living in Liberty Military Housing (LMH) communities.
As of June 1, 2021, Liberty is happy to report that it has implemented the entire MHPI Tenant Bill of Rights, to include participating in the Army, Navy, and Marine Corps' Dispute Resolution processes, all of which include the ability for residents to request to withhold their rent pending the resolution of their claims. In addition, we will provide a 7-year maintenance history to prospective residents, and to current residents upon request. Liberty is also in the process of implementing a Universal Lease. Regardless of whether the Universal Lease has been implemented at your community, you will be able to access all of the rights outlined in the Tenant Bill of Rights, to include the above. Information about how to engage in the formal dispute resolution including rent withholding process can be obtained by contacting your Government Military Housing Office (MHO).
Liberty fully supports the Tenant Bill of Rights and we are proud of the work that has gone into this effort and the work that will continue.
